A Good Interview
This, the 7th Housedeer, presented in book form, contains a lengthy interview with poets and artists Steve Dalachinsky and Yuko Otomo in New York. It’s a wonderful, timeless conversation with an introduction by Yuko. Everyone who knew Steve will no doubt be able to hear his voice coming off the pages. For anyone who did not know him, his voice comes through just as clearly and just as Steve.
When Steve left the world suddenly in 2019, his New York Times obituary spoke of not just the poetry and art, but the special role he had in the world of avant-garde jazz, which was very important to him as it is to Yuko. The single image for this book, printed on the back cover, was taken by the jazz photographer Enid Farber.
Of note: City Lights Books will soon be publishing a book of Steve Dalachinsky’s poems, edited by Michael Ruby and with a foreword by Yuko Otomo. citylights.com > the selected poems of Steve Dalachinsky
A quick search will also lead to the wonderful books of poetry by Yuko Otomo, such as STUDY (Ugly Duckling Press) as well as Anonymous Landscape and Pink, both of which were published by Lithic Press.
